Down in a flash
Posted on October 12th, 2004 in Stock Market
I neglected to note yesterday that the stocks of various flash companies have suddnely fallen out of bed. See SNDK, FLSH, and LEXR for example. I have not found any obvious news, but please note that SNDK reports earnings this week. Perhaps something in AMD’s report last week alarmed flash enthusiasts?

Hi Duru, you’re doing a good job for mike while he’s gone. Keep it up.
As for AMD I just read how they’re thinking of translating one of their technologies so they can apply it to the other half of the flash market that they aren’t in yet.
“AMD could debut a MirrorBit-based chip next month capable of competing on price and performance with NAND flash, opening up part of a multi-billion dollar market for the chipmaker.
Although exact details remain unknown, Jim Handy, a flash memory analyst with Semico Research, said he expects AMD to demonstrate that its MirrorBit technology can be applied to the NAND market at its analyst meeting on November 12.
The significance of such an introduction would start to open up a $6 billion marketplace for AMD. “http://www.dvhardware.net/article3279.html
I’m guessing that’s why the flash companies aren’t doing well. Nothing like having AMD try to jump into your party when you never had them there before.

Thanks, Paul for the compliment and the follow-up on AMD news. My suspicions were correct. I also have not had a chance to check on what Intel had to say about flash…
