The Original Turtle Trading System

I know some of you (Duru) were disappointed with Michael Covel's Trend Following book because of its lack of detail/trading rules. A friend of mine just sent me a link to OriginalTurtles.org which is giving away the rules to the original Turtle Trading System. They have a very interesting reason for giving the system away:

One of the sad realities of the trading industry and futures trading in particular is that there are far more people making money selling systems and “ways to make money trading” than there are people actually making money by trading.

There are many “famous traders” who don’t make money as traders. They make money selling new trading systems, seminars, home study courses, etc. Many, if not all, of these so called “experts” can’t trade and don’t trade the systems that they sell.

Yes, this is also true of those selling the Turtle Trading Rules.

Since we offer the rules here for free we don't see why anyone would pay for these rules anymore but that doesn't stop people from trying to sell them.

Anyway, so far I've only skimmed through the Original Turtles document. I'm printing it out now and will read it tomorrow. From what I've seen it's definitely worth reading. You may want to check it out.

Hopefully you all got a chance to read the Original Turtle Trading Rules. When I learned about all the drama surrounding some trend following systems I was worried that I might have to retract my review of 'Trend Following'. After... Read More

All I will say for now is....hot dayum! I can't wait to dig into this stuff. Ironically enough, I was just realizing earlier today that I never did finish off Covel's book, and I am right in the middle of where it FINALLY gets interesting: p215+ on actual trading systems. What a great coincidence.

LMAO! I knew you'd like that.

Hi Mike,
Thanks for commenting on my post about iPod users switching from PC's to Mac's.
I wish there was more trading type software out there for Mac users. There is some, but nothing of significant consequence. I've asked my broker, FXCM, to port their dealing platform to Mac. They just say there is no plan to do so and will keep me informed of new developments. Also, I've asked the TradeStation people to port their monster over to the Mac, but they just tell me to run Virtual PC. Actually, so did FXCM. That's the real problem, they don't have to port it because of the existence of Virtual PC. Another problem is greed. There's a lot of Microsoft suckling going on, and it's just too profitable.
However there is some hope. Java for OS X is getting better and better, and soon will be complete enough for users to run any app in a their Mac browser that can be run in a PC browser. Another technology that has some promise is Flash. Check out Advanced Currency Markets ( http://www.ac-markets.com/ ) and sign up for their demo account. They have a Flash based dealing platform, at least they did before Refco took over. It needs work, but it will run on a Mac just fine.
Anyway, I just got started with the blogging thing and really like it. So check back for Trader related entries. -Peace
