Don't Believe Everything You See

| 1 TrackBack

I was running a little late this morning because I noticed something disturbing in my charts. I checked the QQQQ in TC2000 to see if it had touched its 200-day moving average. It showed that it had touched it (technically, it missed by less than a penny). So I went to StockCharts.com because I wanted to post the QQQQ chart from there but when I pulled up the chart it had a different value for the 200 DMA. I checked some other charting services (eSignal, BigCharts) and they both agreed with TC2000, so I think that StockCharts is wrong, although it's possible that those other services are getting their data from the same source and are all wrong.

Where it gets really strange is that all of the services show that the NDX did NOT touch its 200 DMA, which they all sow as 1467.99. Maybe this has something to do with the closing time the services use for the QQQQ. I think it used to (still does?) close at 4:15 instead of 4:00, so maybe the services are using different closing times. I'll try to contact StockCharts.com and see what they have to say about this.

Here's the QQQQ chart from eSignal followed by StockCharts' version:

Edit: The note below should say 36.45.
