Sergey asked a good question about the links posts on the site:

Please shed some light at the following. Do you post the same links under "links for 2006-XX-XX" as in TraderMike Quick Links? In other words do I need to keep both RSS subscriptions as before?

There are two differences between them:

  • The links only feed (and the recent links section on the site) only contains links about trading, stocks and a select few others in which I think people will be interested. The Daily links posts contain all of the links which I've added to my delicious account for the day -- on any topic. So the links only RSS feed is a subset of what's in the daily links posts.
  • The daily links posts are created automatically by delicious sometime after midnight. The links feed is updated in close to real time. So if you'll get the latest links quicker by subscribing to the links feed (or by looking at the recent links section on the site).

I hope that answers the question.

On a related note, I just changed the way the main page of the site appears. Ever since I started the automagic posting of the links the redundancy of all those links on the main page has been bothering me. I didn't want to remove the recent links section, so instead I've pulled the daily links posts off of the front page. They'll still appear in the full RSS feed for the site, and they'll still be posted every night to the site. It's just that they won't appear on the main page. You can get to them via the links category, the recent posts list (in the right column) or when navigating post by post.

Sites / Books for Learning Technical Analysis

I just saw this question over at Yahoo Answers: "Please suggest a website for me to learn about technical analysis?"

This is how I answered:

Check out Chart School at StockCharts.com and/or Technical Analysis: Introduction at Investopedia

That answers the question as asked but if you really want to learn about technical analysis you should pick up a good book or two, like Technical Analysis of the Financial Markets by John Murphy, Technical Analysis of Stock Trends by Edwards & Magee, Technical Analysis Explained by Pring or what looks like a good book for beginners, Stikky Stock Charts.

Update: Woo-hoo! My answer was chosen as the best one. \:d/

Archives are Back

I've just put links to the archives up in the navigation bar at the top of the page. If you click on the Subject Index link you'll be taken to a "tag cloud" view of the archives. That displays tags (keywords) which I've assigned to some of the blog's posts. The more frequently used the tag the larger the font of that tag. You'll also notice a mini tag cloud over in the left column of each page. That just shows the 25 most used tags. Clicking a tag will take you to a listing of posts marked with that keyword.

The other view of the archives is accessible through the archives link. If your browser has javascript enabled you should see the following:

SImply click on the columns and/or rows to "drill down" to the data you want to see. If you don't see that you can use the alternate, non-javascript, view of the complete archives.

P.S. Thanks to the following folks for the great plugins:

(Non-Javascript) Archives

Here's another view of the archives for those who can't view the javascript version:
