Comcast is REALLY Pissing Me Off Now
Posted on October 12th, 2006 in Stock Market
(posted from my Treo) Once again my cable modem disconnected right before “money time” at 10:30! After talking to ComCrap’s tech support today’s fix is for me to exchange my modem for a new one. So I’m off to the local service center. -sigh-
I knew I should have gotten the new Treo-as-modem thing figured out last night!

verison has a wireless broadband card - all you can eat for $59 a month - Comcast is the highest rated of all the providers and Satellite is not rated as well either. If you are interested in Verison take a laptop to the store and check it out - assuming you have wireless broadband coverage at your home

thanks Paul. Some other folks suggested Verizon last weekbin the comments and I agreed that they’re the way to go. My new Treo is also with Verizon so I’m going to try using it as a modem first, before I shell out even more cash (and sign another contract) for the PC Card

I suggest buying your own modem. I have a linksys product that combines a modem, 10/100 4 port switch, and wifi. Never had problems with it. Although, every now and then I need to reset it because Comcast is terrible!

Mike,
Tust me I’ve had my fair share of comcast issues over the past month. It’s more than a modem thing. Most tech will come out and try to take the easy way out by blaming it on you or the modem. Ask them to do a detailed workup on your line. All that tech mumbo jumbo. My technical specifications are way off on the high end and border line on the minimum low end. Sorry I forget the terminology. I put the I’m lost and helpless face on and the Comcast guy spilled his guts and said, that for someone like me who daytrades and gets a decent amount of data in, the current cable line configuration is a bit average to below average. He also said that a new modem will not resolve my issue. I’m glad eRock has had a good experience with Linksys, but for the most part I hate most Linksys products. Having used Linksys for years, I recently switched to netgear and it’s much better. Also, if you use a 54g router (hardwire or wirelessly), it can get bogged down (just found out today) if you start running more bandwith consuming tasks. Like ESPN highlights, MSNBC Bush fumblin rumblin bumblin speaches or Porn (not during trading hours).
I’ve also had Verizon in the past, I don’t think the copper DSL is much better. I think their techs are better because of they get paid much more but that isn’t really saying much though. Also, see if you can get Verizon FIOS. That their fiber optic crap. I hear it’s pretty darn good. 15 megs down/ 2 megs up all for $44. Comcast charges me $45 for 6 megs down (but they only guarentee 2) and 356 KB or so uploads. Also you can get 30 megs on FIOS but it cost $180 a month.
Have a good weekend and take some good setups tomorrow.

Mike,
Do you have a back-up power for Comcast modem? I used to have modem trips all the time. I found out by experiments that the modem trip happens when there are power surges (fluctation s). Comcast technical support had no answer. Last year I paid $90 to buy a APC back-up power with anti-power surge for modem, router and the VOIP. So far I had ZERO trips (almost 12 months). If you are going to use Comcast I suggest you get the emergency power and anti-surge protector.

I feel your pain Mike. I have a file full of credits from ComCrap for service interruptus. BFD. When I call for a credit they ask “Don’t you wanna fix the problem?” Duh! Since they can’t see an outage IT MUST BE ME. A service call is scheduled. When I call back 6 (no modem lights) hours later, they say that now it’s a “neighborhood” problem and the visitation is cancelled. When they call (daily?) with their GD triple play I say I wouldn’t give ‘em my land line if it were free. Then how could I call and get my credits?

eRock — I’m the the complete opposite camp. I want their modem b/c otherwise they’ll just try to blame the problem on my modem and I’ll really be SOL. They’ve had me exchange / upgrade modems about 6 times over the last 7 years or so. 95% of the time the connection problem is outside of my house, ie, on their network.
LP — thanks for the commiseration!
I think I live in a telecom wasteland b/c I can’t get shit but ComCrap at my house — no DSL and definitely no fiber. Hopefully the Verizon BroadBand Connect will be a good backup for me.
VC — Yes, I have an office full of UPS’s and surge protection devices outside my house on the electrical and cable lines.
Fuzz — Exactly! They kill me with that BS. It seems that the only way they ever know there’s an outage is once a certain number of people call in… I always seem to be the first to call. After I exchanged my modem today & got back home the new modem didn’t work either. I called them again and then they told me that there’s an outage in my area! WTF???
My full rant on Comcast will come soon….
