Watchlist for December 12, 2006

I'm back... and just in time for Fed day. So that means I get the day off from trading. Look for a chart round-up this evening.

If you have a WordPress blog you may want to read this -- I'm hoping I've finally got the web server issues solved. During this latest server move I took a look at my database for this blog and made a shocking discovery. An earlier version of one of the plugins I'm using, the Ultimate Tag Warrior, had inserted almost a million useless rows of data in one of my tables. The problem I've been having is that Wordpress would time out when I would try to edit or create posts. Whatever access WordPress was doing to that table was taxing the database server. I cleaned up the table and now it has less than 1,500 rows -- down from over 900,000! And WordPress is humming once again. (You'll want to check out this performance boosting patch as well)

On Today's Calendar:

Yes, he's back baby!

It seems you know a lot about database management and stuff. Do you think you'd ever just put together your own blog to do away with the trouble associated with using something like wordpress?

Syl,

In my former life (career) I was a Windoze software developer and did a ton of database work. I've never done any web development so it would take me a loooong time to develop a custom app for the web -- especially if I wanted to approach all the functionality of an open source project like WordPress.
