R.I.P. Aaron, a.k.a. Uppity Negro By michael | September 9th, 2004
I was shocked and saddened to see the news of Aaron’s death this morning. Although I didn’t know Aaron personally I have read his blog several times over the last two years. Part of me is sad because we’ve lost another young black man senselessly but this also stings because it’s bringing up memories of one of my best friends who also took his own life. (Fro that reason, please excuse the rambling that follows. All of a sudden I’m having trouble thinking straight.) Suicide is all too prevalent in the Black community even if we refuse to admit it. We all need to be more aware of what our friends and family members are feeling and thinking.
My deepest condolences go out to Aaron’s friends and family. For those of you looking for understanding of and coping with suicide may I suggest a book which a dear friend gave me by Earl A. Grollman called ‘Suicide: Prevention, Intervention, Postvention‘

R.I.P. means Rest In Peace.
I miss him so much, but I hope he has found that peace and that rest because in my conversations with him I know he was very tired and very sad and very lacking in peacefulness inside himself. I hope he has found all that and that somehow, the loving and beautiful consciousness that was Aaron somehow, someway will stay with us all forever.
Let us take this opportunity to love each other a little more. Aaron touched so many of us who barely know each other. We are bound by his love. Thank you, Michael for your words and your support for all of us.
